Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) Early Years Educator
Role overview
Early Years Educators, and other job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre schools, reception classes and as childminders. They may either be working on their own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.
You will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to fullfil your role and understand the requirements at higher level in preparation for progression.
Entry requirements
We require all applicants to have GCSE grades C/4 or above in English and Maths or to demonstrate the ability to work at this level
If an Apprentice has not already achieved Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or above) English & Maths they must: - Study for and achieve Functional Skills Level 2 English & Maths at Loughborough College by attending classes onsite.
English and Maths at grades C/4 or above must be achieved to be counted in ratios.
Qualifications obtained
- L3 Apprenticeships Standard in Early Years Educator
- L3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce
- L2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if required)
- Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid
Programme includes
Regular formative assessment, development of a portfolio demonstrating learning and development activities with their application in the workplace and a work-based project. As part of the qualification, apprentices must complete all units, be competent in real work environment and a longitudinal study of child over a six-week period.
- The expected patterns of children’s development from birth to 5 years, and understand further development from age 5 to 7
- Systematic synthetic phonics in the teaching of reading, and a range of strategies for developing early literacy and mathematics
- Safeguarding policies and procedures, including child protection, recognise when a child is in danger or at risk of abuse, and know how to act to protect them
- Analyse and explain how children’s learning and development can be affected by their stage of development and individual circumstances such as the needs of children learning English as an additional language from a variety of cultures
- Ensure plans fully reflect the stage of development, individual needs and circumstances of children and providing consistent care and responding quickly to the needs of the child
- Work co-operatively with colleagues and other professionals to meet the needs of babies and children and enable them to progress.
